Using The Gym


​Bookings can be made by telephone only. You can also book at reception once we open. If you need to cancel please let the centre know as these slots can be given to other customers.

You will be able to book up to 1 week in advance.
Sessions will start on the hour and will be 55 minutes long so that people can leave in time for the next session starting.

All customers must have their membership cards to book, we will ask you to read your card number out rather than passing cards to be swiped. Casual users must pay at the time of booking. Please use contactless payments where possible.
We won’t have changing rooms/showers or lockers in use. Toilets only. Please come dressed for the gym.

Numbers will be limited and we ask that all customers wash hands on entry to the centre. And sanitize their hands before using each piece of equipment.


Antiseptic products will be available for after you have used each machine and we ask you wipe them down thoroughly with these products for the next customer.


Some equipment will be taken out of action to adhere to social distancing. And customers are asked to keep a 2 meter distance when in the gym.

We will also have a one way system in place for people moving around the gym.
Only one person at a time will be allowed in the free weights area also at anyone time.

Weight machines. If someone is on a machine please wait until they are finished if you wish to use a machine either side of that machine. Customers should not use a machine next to someone else.

If customers are showing any signs/symptoms of covid we ask you to stay away from the centre until these have gone.

On arrival you must come through the single door next to main entrance and leave via the main entrance. and wait to be called to reception desk.


We are looking forward to seeing all our customers back using the gym safely. We appreciate things will be different but safety is the main objective of everyone using the centre.

The gym will be limited to 15 people at any one time for social distancing measures.


Customers will be allowed a maximum of 55 minutes in the gym


Could all customers follow the one way system.


All customers to wipe down equipment after use. Please use the products provided and dispose of paper towels in the bin.


Please do not use a machine next to someone who is using one. Please wait until they have finished and moved away from the machine
Only one person to use free weights area at any one time.


We request during busy periods that customers use a machine for a maximum of 15 minutes. 



Spin Classes

The classes will be limited to numbers for social distancing measures. 7 for indoor cycling.

Customers must observe social distancing at all times.

Could all customers please wash their hands before entering the studio and use the hand sanitizer provided.

Customers must step onto the bike from the right and step off the bike to the left.

All customers to wipe down equipment after use. Please use the products provided and dispose of paper towels in the bin.

 



02/10/20 - Badminton And Table Tennis

Following the latest government advice for the local lockdown,
adults (over 18) playing badminton or table tennis - can only play with members of their own household or social bubble.
This will be until the current guidance changes.
If you still want to book a court with a member of your household please ring reception on 0191 2640014.
Hopefully we will see all our regular players very soon.


5 a side Football


Customers bring all equipment, the centre will not provide any equipment.


Social distancing must be followed at all times.


Customers using the right hand side will enter and leave through the double doors opposite reception.


Customers using the left hand side of the hall should enter through the left hand entrance opposite reception, behind the vending machines. Customers will then leave through the fire exit on the left hand side, and loop around through the corridors to exit the building.


Outside football will enter through the gate next to the main carpark and leave through the gate at the back of the courts into the overspill.

Climbing Wall


The climbing wall is now booking only and a 55 minute slots must be booked by ringing reception or in person. Each slot will on each centre.

 

The wall will be limited to 6 users for social distancing measures.

 
55 Minute sessions will be in place on reopening to allow others time to use the wall


Could all customers please wash their hands before entering the wall and use the hand sanitizer provided before each climb.

 
Please keep 2 metres apart in the climbing wall area and do not stand next to other users.


Please do not climb on a route directly next to someone else. Please wait for them to finish their climb and have moved away from that area.


All customers to wipe down equipment after use. Please use the products provided and dispose of paper towels/wipes in the bin provided.

 
The centre will be unable to provide climbing wall inductions at this time due to social distancing.

 
No harnesses will be provided for customer use by the centre. 

 
Please bring the minimum amount of personal belongings possible into the centre.

Badminton and Table Tennis


27/11/20 - Under tier 3 rules badminton and table tennis can only be played by the same household or support bubble. 


Mixed households can only play single competitions.


Multiple individuals from the same household may play doubles.    


All seating will be removed from the sports hall.


Customers bring all equipment, the centre will not provide any equipment.


Social distancing must be followed at all times.

24/9/20 - Hands, Face, Space

Can all customers please now wear a face covering within the centre, this can be removed once you enter an area to exercise.

All indoor sports must now follow the rule of six, which means you can have no more than six people per booking playing a sport indoors.

We now have a QR code in place throughout the centre, which if you download the new NHS track and tracing app can be used.

Can we remind all customers to follow the latest advice of hands, face and space to help keep all customers and staff safe

Using The Centre

 

Can all customers please enter via the crèche, use the hand sanitiser provided and wait in the crèche until instructed to enter the reception area by staff. Social distancing must be observed at all times.

 
All customers will leave via the main reception, unless activity specific guidance states otherwise. Please read the guidance issued for the activity you are participating in.


Please follow the one way arrows, social distancing markers and information signs around the building.


Please stick to the left hand side of the corridors at all times.   


Please stand behind the marked line when interacting with the reception desk.

 
No membership’s cards are to be passed over to reception staff. Instead customers will be asked to read out the membership number stated on the card.

 
All payments must be made before using the centre, we encourage contactless card payments however cash will still be accepted.

 
All toilets will now be customer use only.

 
All changing room and shower facilities will not be in use.


We have increased cleaning throughout the centre and encourage all of our customers to follow the advice of regular hand washing, social distancing and using hand sanitizer throughout using the centre.

 
Please make sure you provided up to date correct contact information with reception every time you visit the centre. This information is required to be securely held by the centre for 21 days, as part of the governments track and trace programme.

 
If any customers are feeling unwell or displaying any symptoms as identified by the government advice then please do not attend the centre and follow the advice to stay at home.

 

 



Fitness Classes


27/11/20 - Under tier 3 rules, all fitness classes have been forced to stop. 


The classes will be limited to numbers for social distancing measures. Limited to 12 people. 9 for Pilates and 20 for Zumba.

In the dance studio each participant will have a marked box that they must stay within. 

Customers must observe social distancing at all times.

Could all customers please wash their hands before entering the studio and use the hand sanitizer provided.

All customers to wipe down equipment after use. Please use the products provided and dispose of paper towels in the bin.

There will be a 10 minute window in between classes so no waiting around in groups.

Covid 19 aCTIVITY gUIDANCE

The centre reopened on Saturday 25th July, whilst we adapt to the Covid 19 guidance the centre will be running at reduced opening hours. Please see below:

Monday to Friday – 9 am – 1 pm and 4 pm – 9 pm

Saturday 9 am - 4 pm

 Sunday 9 am – 4 pm

The gym and all fitness classes are now operating a booking system and a slot must be pre booked.

Slots for the gym will last 55 minutes and will start on each hour whilst fitness classes will see reduced numbers of slots.

The climbing wall has also moved to a booking system only. Slots will start on each hour and will last 55 minutes.

All casual slots must be paid for at the time of booking and all slots can be booked up to 7 days in advance.

In the short term please check our Facebook page for times that that slots can be booked, whilst staff get the centre ready to open. Once we are open slots can be booked by ringing 01912640014 or in person.

All sports hall based activities will follow the same booking system, however all activities must be paid for before you participate in the activity.

Newburn Activity Centre

Centre to reopen 2/12/20

The centre will reopen on Wednesday 2nd December and will be following the tier 3 restrictions set by the government.

Unfortunately, this means that fitness classes are now no longer allowed and indoor sport must be played by the same household or support bubble.

Everything else will be open again following the COVID-19 secure measures we had in place before the second lockdown. These measures can be viewed here.

Can we remind all customers that a face covering must be worn in non-activity areas within the centre.

Can we also remind all customers that gym sessions must be pre booked and will last 55 minutes.

The centre will be open for telephone bookings for activities on Monday 30th November and Tuesday 1st December between 10.30 AM and 12.30 PM.
